SAT Math formula sheet
The digital SAT hands you a reference sheet, so you never memorize the geometry. What it does not give you is the algebra, and that is where most of the marks are. Here is the split, on one page.
Given on test day
The reference panel is built into the test app and you can open it whenever you like. These are the ones you do not need to memorize.
- Circle: area A = πr², circumference C = 2πr
- Rectangle: area A = length × width
- Triangle: area A = ½ × base × height
- Right triangle: c² = a² + b²
- Special right triangles: 30-60-90 is x : x√3 : 2x, and 45-45-90 is x : x : x√2
- Cylinder: volume V = πr²h. Box: V = length × width × height
- Sphere: volume V = ⁴⁄₃πr³. Cone: volume V = ⅓πr²h
- A full circle is 360°, which is 2π radians
Know by heart
None of these appear on the reference panel, and questions lean on them constantly. Learn them until you do not have to think.
- Line: y = mx + b, and slope m = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁)
- Quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) / 2a
- Right triangle trig: SOH CAH TOA
- Circle equation: (x − h)² + (y − k)² = r²
- Exponents: aᵐ · aⁿ = aᵐ⁺ⁿ, a⁰ = 1, a⁻ⁿ = 1 / aⁿ
- Percent change: (new − old) / old, then × 100
How to use it while you practice
Practicing with the sheet open is fine, but only for the first week. After that, close it and let a missed formula be a missed question, because on test day the algebra ones will not be there.
The discriminant is worth adding
One formula earns its place outside the sheet: b² − 4ac, the part under the square root in the quadratic formula. Its sign tells you how many real solutions an equation has before you solve anything, and several questions are built to reward exactly that.
Does the digital SAT give you a formula sheet?
Yes. The test app has a built-in reference panel with the area, volume, circle and special-triangle formulas. You can open it at any point during the math section.
What formulas are not given?
The slope formula, the quadratic formula, SOH CAH TOA, the circle equation, exponent rules and percent change. Those you supply from memory.

Can I use a calculator on the whole math section?
Yes. The digital SAT allows the built-in graphing calculator on every math question.
