SAT Math scoring and practice estimates
Two sections, two scores: Math and Reading and Writing each land somewhere between 200 and 800, and the two add up to your total. A practice estimate is a study aid, not a forecast. It shows where you are today so you can decide what to work on next.
How the two section scores work
The digital SAT reports a score for Math and a score for Reading and Writing. Each runs from 200 to 800, in steps of ten. Math sits entirely in its own section, so a reading mistake never touches it. Within Math, the first module is fixed and the second adapts to how you did on the first.
What a practice estimate is
An estimate in the app takes the questions you have answered and turns them into a rough number on the same 200 to 800 scale. It is a study aid. It cannot know which questions you will see next, how you will feel on the day, or how the second module will branch. Treat it as a direction, not a promise.
Why the range matters more than the number
An estimate of 610 usually means 560 to 660, because the sample is small and the topics are uneven. Read the range, not the middle. If your estimate moved up after a week on quadratics, that is useful signal. If it sat still, look at which domain held it back rather than assuming the whole subject is stuck.
A calmer way to read it
Use the estimate to choose your next hour of work, and nothing more. A number is not a verdict, and it is not a predictor of the score you will receive. The honest question is simpler: which topics cost you the most marks last week, and what will you do about them this week?
Is the SAT Math score separate from the total?
Yes. Math gets its own 200 to 800 score, and Reading and Writing gets another. The two section scores add together to give your total, which runs from 400 to 1600.
Does a practice estimate predict my real score?
No. It is a study aid built from the questions you have answered so far. It cannot account for the questions you have not seen or the conditions on test day.
Why does the estimate show a range?

Can the estimate change over time?
